What’s Up With The StarsUsing a combination of naked eye and telescopic views we will explain what is visible in the night sky, you will learn how to navigate it and will view select objects through a telescope. Visions of Sound Using astronomically relevant classical pieces of work, a pianist will play said pieces on the Sing For Hope piano while observers learn about the space. Sing For Hope Pianos For two weeks in June, they bring stunningly painted pianos – each a unique piece of art created by a different artist – to New York City’s parks, streets, and public spaces for anyone and everyone to play. The Sing for Hope Pianos inspire community engagement. My Recycled Bouquet of Flowers

May 14th I was part of a Dinner Without Agenda, organized by the Queens Museum. The purpose of this dinner where 10 artists and curators that don’t know each other meet, was to talk in an unstructured meeting, to start a conversation about how galleries and institutions influence your work. After that interesting night someone from the museum asked me to write a blog about my experience. You can find the whole article HERE. I want to thank the curator Miguel Luciano for inviting me, because it was a great experience. I hope more institutions would follow the Queens Museum example being more proactive with their communities. Two years ago I had the pleasure of being part of Women in Comics, the first exhibition of that kind in The Bronx. This August, we bring you the second part. BxArts Factory is a not-for-profit organization founded to provide a space to support local artists working in the Bronx. We plan to assist affiliated artists to engage and advance the Arts in communities throughout the borough via a diverse set of arts-oriented programming and services. Through collaborations with local artists and community based organizations, we will offer dynamic arts education programming that incorporates all of the fine arts. While curriculum development and curation of art exhibits will be completed by our program directors, classroom based activities will be led by our in-house, teaching artists. The BxArts Factory intends to provide unique and engaging experiences to advance the Arts and cultural education in the Bronx.
BxArts Factory is a project visualized by Laura Alvarez (local artist), Twahira Khan (Community Activist), Alexis Mendoza (founder of Alexis Mendoza Curatorial Projects) and Yolanda L. Rodriguez (founder and director of Visiones Culturales, Inc.). These four individuals bring forth knowledge and experience that will secure the success of this development. BxArts Factory will also include the talents of local Bronx artists and community members Latanya DeVaughn, Josue Guarionex Colon, Yarisa Colon and Masiel Ureña.
